About "Chega de Saudade" COLLECTION
The Portuguese word "saudade" refers to a deep emotional state of nostalgic longing for something or someone that is absent, often with the knowledge that the object of longing might never return. It’s a complex feeling, typically associated with a mix of sadness, love, and a sense of incompleteness. "Saudade" is often considered untranslatable because it captures an emotion that doesn’t have a direct equivalent in other languages.
The collection of paintings by Carolina Luz is a profound celebration of Brazilian identity and the memories that distance makes even more vivid.
With a background in fashion design and years of experience as a stylist, the artist brings a meticulous and sensitive perspective to her paintings, capturing the essence of the colors and textures of chita fabric, which are so emblematic of Brazilian culture.
The "saudade" for simple things like home and the smell of coffee evokes even greater "saudade" for things such as music, faith, and the exuberance of tropical nature — all of which come to life in her works. Each piece in the collection reflects Brazil's cultural richness, allowing those who are far away to feel more connected to their roots.
Carolina Luz is an artist based in Munich, Germany, originally from Joinville, Brazil. Since childhood, she has shown a passion for art. With a degree in fashion design from the Catholic University of Santa Catarina, she worked as a fashion designer and illustrator in the textile industry for over a decade and taught fashion design at Centro Europeu for eight years before dedicating herself to handmade watercolor painting.
Immigrating to Germany was a decisive moment in her career, leading her to adopt handmade watercolor as a profession. Inspired by cultural exchanges with other Brazilian migrants, Carolina explores floral themes, symbols of Brazilian culture, and portraits. Her works, which combine watercolor and collage, are vibrant and rich in symbolism, influenced by Frida Kahlo, Van Gogh, and Tarsila do Amaral.
She participated in an exhibition at the W/Soul Art Gallery at Nymphenburg Castle in Munich and conducts the Relaxing Watercolor workshop. Carolina also sells prints of her artwork on Etsy. Her project "Chega de Saudade" portrays Brazilian symbols and expresses the longing of immigration, bringing a piece of Brazil into homes in Germany.
workshop Relaxing Watercolor
What is Relaxing Watercolor?
It is an artistic practice that uses watercolor painting techniques to promote relaxation, well-being, and stress relief. In this context, the focus is not only on the final result of the artwork but also on the painting process itself, which can be therapeutic and meditative.
What is the Relaxing Watercolor Workshop Like?
In each workshop, we explore specific themes to inspire our creations. The workshop is highly practical, featuring demonstrations and instruction in watercolor painting techniques, along with a welcoming and inclusive approach where everyone is encouraged to paint and develop their creativity and inner artist, regardless of prior experience.
It’s a fun day that fosters connections between people interested in painting and helps connect with one’s inner artist. I value giving attention to each participant, addressing questions, offering tips, and demonstrating techniques with participants' materials. It’s a day to relax and demystify many beliefs about painting, while also learning and refining watercolor painting techniques.
